I have a few poses I love doing with each Tacoma newborn photo session. Even though they are all the “same”, each family and baby is unique making it easy to get a variety of final images.
Family photos with a new baby are one of my favorite things to be a part of. There’s so much excitement around bringing a baby home! Seeing everyone with all the heart eyes for them is just so special to document.
Keep reading to see what my favorite poses are!
Everyone snuggled together is a must-have for newborn family photos
Sure the main focus is the baby, but these sessions are also about a family that has grown by two more feet. I love to have everyone gather in one spot, usually on the couch or a bed where everyone can fit. I’ll ask you to get really close, hug, interact with one another, joke to get some genuine laughter, stare at the baby. . . you get the idea
Mom holding baby with their head resting near her shoulder is simply beautiful
It’s a position I often found myself holding my own children in, especially if I was lounging on the couch. Maybe that’s why I like it so much, but it’s just so sweet to see how content babies are laying on their momma.
Baby cradled in dad’s arms is another favorite pose for newborn family photos
Poses with dad alone have all the feelings of love and adoration, blended with the protection and safety that comes with fatherly love. The contrast of a tiny baby in their dad’s (relatively) big arms makes this one of my go-to poses.
Baby feet are practically a requirement to get a photo of (or five!)
Baby feet are THE cutest, and I can’t help myself. Even better if they are wrinkled!
I usually like to get these while they are laying on their back and naturally moving around. I’ll also have mom or dad hold baby’s feet in their hands while they’re cradling them, or have the sibling(s) gently touch them to tell me how many toes they have.
Finally, sibling(s) checking out the newest member of the family are some of the sweetest photos.
Big brother or sister is a pretty important title. Some kids are more okay with that at first than others! Whether they already adore their new sibling or are warming up to the idea of sharing the spotlight, getting them in the frame with baby rounds out my top favorite poses.
Even though these are most of my go-to poses for newborn family photos, no two sessions have ever looked exactly the same! These moments are incredibly special, and having photos of this time in your lives is something that you’ll never regret.
