There are lots of options for spring family photo locations in Tacoma. The sun starts showing up more, the trees start showing off their green leaves, and the flowers are blooming. The cherry trees and the daffodils are usually the first to burst forward around here, letting us know that less dreary days are ahead!

Sure, the threat of rain still looms from March to May. But, that won’t stop you from getting your family photos done in the spring! I’ve put together a guide for spring family photos in Tacoma, from locations to what to wear!

My favorite Spring Photo Locations in Tacoma

Point Defiance Park

The flower garden and pond area at the main entrance are both beautiful spots to get some spring blooms and foliage in the background.

Fort Steilacoom Park

This park is one of my go-to places no matter what the season is. It’s the perfect spot for spring family photos with all of the old growth trees with their leaves in full green and lots of spots to choose from.

Wapato Hills Park

Featuring a few huge cherry trees and nestled just off of I-5 in Tacoma, this spot screams ‘spring’ if we catch them at the right time! There’s an open field for lots of playing with the kids, and even a playground for them to explore as part

Wild Hearts Farm

This quaint little spot is nestled between Tacoma and Puyallup. There is a glass greenhouse, a stunning willow tree, and even a vintage truck we can explore. There is plenty of space for kids to run around and be themselves, and there isn’t a bad spot for a backdrop.

Reservations do need to be made in advance, so if this location is the place for you, the sooner you let me know the better!

What to Wear at Spring Photo Locations in Tacoma

Outfits for photos in the spring are on the light and airy side in both style and colors. Neutral colors like white, creams, and grays are wonderful to use as a base (especially if we are surrounded by a lot of green trees!). You can add pops of color in accessories or light sweaters to pull it all together.

I reiterate this in all of my other ‘what to wear for family photos’ posts – choose things that you’re comfortable in and fit your personal style. Being true to this will result in photos that you’ll love because you were able to relax during your session.

Weather Considerations for Tacoma Spring Photo Locations

Yes, it might rain.

I will keep you updated in the days leading up to your session if the weather may put a damper on our plans. We may be able to change the time, the location, or adjust the day altogether. We could also pivot and do the photo session in your home! It may not give off that spring vibe, but the photo we create would be so special regardless.

But don’t forget – it might be sunny!

So often in the spring it will rain in the morning and be clear in the afternoon (and vice versa). Or, it could rain for 20 minutes and be beautiful afterward!

If it’s been raining, you’ll want to think about the ground conditions where we’re meeting. You don’t want your footwear choice to be an unfortunate one!

There’s no reason to wait until fall to take your family photos! Spring in the PNW is so pretty, and there are many options for locations beyond what I’ve listed above.

With a little faith in the weather and willingness to be flexible if needed, family photos in the spring are wonderful.
