Poses for newborn photos at home are simple, relaxed, and full of love for your newest addition to the family

We’ve all seen the beautiful photos of babies posed and molded into very specific positions. Some of them even leave you in awe, wondering how the heck the photographer did that.

There is nothing wrong with wanting those kind of posed newborn sessions, it’s just not the style you’ll get here. If you prefer a cozy feel and more of a peek inside life with a new baby, you’ll love having lifestyle newborn family photos taken in your home.

The best poses for newborn photos at home are minimal and natural

In fact, they’re not even really “poses” in the traditional sense of that word. During your newborn photos, I’ll guide everyone into certain spots to sit and relax. I’ll give you prompts to interact with each other to get the most natural interactions possible.

I will have you move the baby around to various spots, but I will never mold them into a specific position. Babies tend to unfold themselves in the most perfectly adorable ways if you let them. They also tend to be content wrapped in a swaddle or in their parent’s arms.

Lifestyle newborn photo poses allow your family to relax and get comfortable

Your baby is meant to be held and adored. So, that’s exactly what the majority of your newborn family photos are going to show! Whether in mom or dad’s arms or catching the awe of older siblings, you’ll be able to be yourselves in your space.

You’ll bring this new life home and find yourself just staring at them for hours on end.

While you’re nursing or while they’re sleeping.
When they’re awake and taking it all in.
As your spouse is holding them.
Or while your older ones are checking them out.

All. The. Time.

And you don’t feel an ounce of guilt about it.

Get ready to stare some more during your family newborn session!

Props are generally not a part of poses for newborn photos

What do I mean by props?

I’m talking about setting up specific scenes for the baby to be a part of or baskets to place them in. That’s just not my jam.

But, any type of special outfit, blanket, or stuffie can absolutely be incorporated into a handful of the images. Music is a very integral part of the family featured in the photo below, so grabbing some that incorporated the guitar and their daughter dancing to Daddy’s music wasn’t even a question.

The goal with lifestyle photos is to imprint the love and joy in the room onto the image of those special moments together while being true to your style and personalities.

It’s important to choose a newborn photographer that has a style you’re drawn to and fits well with your family’s overall vibe. You want to feel a connection to their work and be able to easily visualize your family in that same style.

With me, you’ll get a true-to-life gallery of images that involves minimal posing, lots of snuggles, and all the heart eyes for baby.

If welcoming a baby to the world is in your near future, let’s get your session on the calendar!
