Having newborn photos to look back on and remember all of their tiny little features is priceless. It’s easy to forget just how small they were, believe it or not. I’m so thankful that we documented this special time in our lives with both of my children
If there’s one cliché that’s completely true, it’s that our babies grow up way too fast.
One of the things you’ll be asked by your Tacoma newborn photographer is when your due date is to help determine when to schedule a newborn session. Which, leads us to the big question –
What is the best age for newborn photos?
If you are hoping for mostly sleepy and snuggly images, then the best age for a newborn photoshoot is when they are 10-14 days old, give or take a few days. If your baby is older than that, don’t worry! We can still encourage some sleepy snuggles, but it’s also fun to capture their wide open eyes that are taking in all their new surroundings.Take the two babies in the photos below; one is a week old (right) and the other (left) is four weeks old. Spoiler alert – they’re both so dang adorable.
What if my baby is 5 weeks old (or more), is this still and okay age for newborn photos?
The wonderful thing about lifestyle newborn family photos is that there is so much flexibility – from what you’re wearing to how old your baby is, we have lots of room to settle into what works best for your family.
Technically a baby is a newborn up to 28 days old, but you know what? I don’t like labels 😉
Babies are precious at all stages. Whether they are 3 weeks or 3 months old, I’m happy to get them in front of my camera.
My style of photography does not include molding your baby into specific poses, so I’m genuinely not concerned about your baby’s age. What’s important is that you’re documenting that early stage of their life – you’ll be so happy you did!
You’ll be even happier if PRINT those pictures! Get them in an album, or have a wall dedicated to showing off how much they have changed and grown (stay tuned for more ideas on that in a future post!).
