I'm ashley!

I'm a newborn and family photographer based in Tacoma, WA. I love working with new and growing laid-back families who are comfortable with the imperfect and love doing life with their people.

What trimester should I schedule maternity photos?

The third trimester is the best time to do maternity photos, specifically between 30 – 34 weeks along. This is the time where your bump is poppin’ out there but you likely aren’t quite to the point of being completely uncomfortable.

Where are the best places to take pregnancy photos around Tacoma?

I have an article linked here outlining the locations in Tacoma that are great for pregnancy photos, but we will work together on choosing a spot that works with how you’re envisioning your photos.

What should I wear for maternity photos? What about the rest of my family?

Whatever you want, mama! 😉 But for a little more guidance, I wrote all about what to wear for maternity photos <— in this blog post. Moral of that story – whatever makes you feel comfortable and confident, and then coordinate colors for the rest of the fam in a similar style.

What time of day is best for maternity photos in Tacoma?

Sessions toward the end of the day when the sun is low and glowing is always an awesome time, but it’s not the only option. We will work together based on schedules, time of the year, and location we settle on to choose the all around best time.

How long does a maternity photo session usually take?

We will likely be able to get an amazing set of photos in 20-30 minutes, but I allow for around an hour of shooting time. Don’t worry – we won’t be out for hours taking photos. You’ve got things to do and you’re not going to want to be walking around + getting up and down constantly for very long.

My due date is during a time when it’s going to be cold and/or likely raining around here – do we have to take maternity photos outdoors?

Nope! You sure don’t. We can absolutely use your home for photos – which I love doing, btw! In home, lifestyle maternity photos are real life, cozy way of documenting the short period of time you’re growing a human in the space you’re going to be bringing them home to (or giving birth in!)

Do you travel for maternity photos?

Yes! Be sure to send me a message with the basics of what you’re hoping for so we can see about making it happen (the sooner the better!)

We want to have newborn photos taken once baby arrives. Do you offer a discount for booking both sessions at the same time?

I sure do! Booking a Tacoma maternity + newborn session together has some perks, so be sure to mention you’d like both when you contact me! But if you forget, that’s okay – I will probably ask you about newborn photos if you’re contacting me about a maternity session 🙂

That covers the most common questions asked about maternity photo sessions. Hopefully that answers yours, but if not I’m just a quick email/phone call/contact form away 🙂
