If you’re looking for ideas for where to take maternity photos around Tacoma, you’ve come to the right place! There are lots of different places around Tacoma to show off your bump, it just depends on the look you are going for! My Tacoma maternity photography sessions are lifestyle sessions with some “traditional” posing thrown into the mix. They are pretty low key and we make it as quick as possible – those last couple months are not the most comfortable in the whole process, right? Together we will choose a place that fits your vision for documenting this incredible season you are in that both makes you feel gorgeous and lets your personality shine.

The best spot with an open tall grass field is Fort Steilacoom Park in Lakewood
This Pierce County park in Lakewood has large fields with tall grasses and tree-lined horizons. At the right time of day, the sun peeks through the trees perfectly. The paths through the fields that are easy to navigate and stay pretty dry even after it’s rained. The trails are jogging stroller/wagon friendly for those that will have little ones with them. There is also paved path around a large pond to explore and old barns that can add a pop of color.
If you’re wanting an outdoorsy feel for your maternity photos, Point Defiance Park does not disappoint.
Could we be any more lucky to have this urban oasis in our back yard? With miles of trails that weave through the pines, there are some great spots that scream middle of the woods without having to go to the middle of nowhere. Whether you’re hoping for a forested oasis or simple park-like setting, Point Defiance has it all.
For maternity photos on the beach or by the water, Chambers Bay Park is the perfect choice.
If you want local beach photos, this is my go to spot. Now, when we say ‘beach’ here in the PNW, it’s a toss up if it’s going to be a rocky shore or some actual sand, am I right? If the tide is out, Chambers Bay has the best of both. Chambers Creek Regional Park is one of my favorite places to shoot families and couples, too!
Runner up beach spots: Owen Beach at Point Defiance Park, Titlow Beach, Tacoma Narrows Park (very close to the Narrows bridges), and Point Robinson if you’re up for a venture out to Vashon/Maury island.
Have your heart set on the coast? Shoot me a message! I love a good excuse to visit Washington and Oregon beaches!
Downtown Tacoma has many spots to get urban maternity photos
Want that modern, urban vibe to show off the bump? Let’s go explore downtown Tacoma! The options are nearly endless around the Tacoma UW campus and across Pacific Avenue around the museums, or up a few blocks around the theaters.
Maternity photos taken in your home are the last (but not least!) option for a location
That’s right – don’t exclude your home as a possible location for your pregnancy photos! There is a comfy and nostalgic feel to having your pregnancy documented in the place your baby will be brought home. It gives a more intimate view of this season of life with your partner, your kids, and any furry companions you may have : ) Not to mention, weather isn’t a factor and is great for any time of year.
No matter where we land for your Tacoma maternity photos, the most important thing is doing them! You will never regret having these photos to look back on.
