I'm ashley!

I'm a newborn and family photographer based in Tacoma, WA. I love working with new and growing laid-back families who are comfortable with the imperfect and love doing life with their people.

hello,

Ready to get on my calendar?

let's get started >

Let’s be honest – you can go down a reealllyyy long rabbit hole buying all. the. things for your baby – it’s just so exciting! I wrote about choosing baby’s outfits for newborn photos in another post, but I wanted to also create a quick resource/starting point for places to find said outfits. Whether online shopping is your jam or you prefer to look at things in person, there are many local and online options where you can buy baby outfits for newborn photos.

BUT – before you dive in, I’d like to emphasize one thing: you don’t need to spend a ton of money (or any money at all!) on new clothes to have great family newborn photos. These are simply some shops that have great options if you’re wanting to have baby in something special for their first photo shoot!

(Everything in this post is solely my opinion as a mom and photographer – I am in no way compensated for listing the businesses below)

Best local stores around Tacoma (Pierce County) to buy outfits for newborn outfits

PopUp Kids in University Place – a wonderful second hand store run by a local momma. She always has a great selection of gently used (and sometimes brand new) high quality clothing available. The store is open during select days (her ‘pop-ups’), but there is also a large selection of inventory online, too – and she ships! You can follow her on Facebook or over on Instagram – @popup_kids

Locals: do you have name brand items in great condition that your other kids have outgrown? Bring them to Pop-Up Kids for consignment!

Little Luxe Baby in Gig Harbor: carries a handful of boutique brands of baby outfits, including Copper Pearl. They also have books and other baby essentials. Their sister store in Fircrest, Curious Bear, has a handful baby items as well as gifts/books/feeding accessories (and it’s also our favorite toy store!)

Channing Baby & Co in Tacoma – boutique shop that has a good selection of luxe baby clothing + gear

Sugar Babies in Sumner – another cute boutique shop offering everything from outfits to the latest baby gear

Lou Lou & Co:

  • Super soft knotted gowns that are accented with buttons on the front
  • Lots of solid color options as well as subtle prints
  • Headbands and hats to coordinate with outfits

Caden Lane:

  • Knotted gowns, swaddles, headbands, and a selection of matching sets
  • Custom outfits with baby’s name if that’s your thing 🙂
  • Also have really cute pajama sets for siblings!

Copper Pearl:

  • Buttery smooth knotted gowns, + sets with hats
  • Super soft swaddles and blankets (solid colors and fun prints)
  • Bow headbands and hat separates

Also available at Little Luxe / Curious Bear stores noted above!

Other online + in store places to find outfits:

Target: their Cat & Jack line has great options for basics in both solid + bold colors and subtle prints

Walmart: much like Target, you can find solid basics at affordable prices

Amazon: I mean, what can’t you find here? I try to shop small/local first, but this is a good backup

Pro tip: put outfits you adore on your registry! People LOVE to gift things that will be appreciated and used, so having them help style baby for their newborn photos is a great way for them to do just that!

I always like to support local small businesses when I can (and I encourage you to do the same!), but sometimes there are prints/colors available online that the stores don’t have. It’s so fun picking out things for baby, but keeping it simple is where it’s at.

I hope this, along with my tips for what to wear for newborn photos are helpful to find something that you love!
